One year on and the Wired Community@Collingwood program has generated
benefits to residents of Collingwood public housing estate as the digital divide
begins to narrow. 

Alby Clark is a long term and active resident of Collingwood public housing estate. He is one of the residents’ representatives in the Community Safety Working Committee.

Ghanian women are gaining healing benefits from their involvement in Kankaley Choir. With assistance from Portland House Foundation, the process of overcoming trauma has been made easier through the therapy of song.

Janet is Ghanaian and migrated to Australia four years ago to have a better life. With other women migrants and refugees from Sierra Leone, they formed the Kankelay choir.

The National Australia Bank has funded a programme that gives government housing residents, mainly children, the opportunity to spend time on organised excursions.

Kirsty Baird, Jesuit Social Services (JSS) Community Development worker organised the first excursion to Werribee zoo in early October.  It was specifically for two communities, Sudanese and Liberian.

Yarra residents use the Moon Lantern Festival to celebrate cultural diversity and harmony through arts.
 
Richmond public housing estate recently hosted the Moon Lantern Festival, to showcase the artistic array of residents in the City of Yarra. Although the festival originated in Chinese and Vietnamese culture, it is celebrated by other communities from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Residents express their determination to build better lives and self-govern as they discuss the future of the City of Yarra's three public housing estates in 2010 and beyond.

Old crates are stacked together and made as an entering gate; others are made for a bar table. Pictures of residents who attended the Futures Forum 1 that was held in March this year are also hanging on the wall of pergola area in the underground car park in Collingwood housing estate that day, showing residents’ strength and creativity.

Melbourne high school students took home several prizes from the Tianjin International Art Festival this year.

Jeremy Lin, 14, a Preston Primary School and HCC art studio student won first prize at the fifth Tianjin International Youth Culture and Art Festival. 

Exhibiting 1000 students’ paintings from 43 nations around the world; this year Melbourne students won three gold medals, two silvers and six excellence prizes.

Impressed with Neighbourhood Renewal project based at Atherton Gardens in Fitzroy, the Malaysian Minister for Housing will replicate it in his own country.
 
 The Malaysian Minister for Housing is planning to replicate the Victorian Neighbourhood Renewal project at Atherton Gardens in Fitzroy after a recent visit to Melbourne.

"It creates a platform that involves local community that will eventually play an important role for their own community,” Dato Seri Kong Ka Chuan told yarraReporter.

Although the city of Yarra has officially opened the redevelopment of Victoria Park project, people still have mixed feelings.

A number of Collingwood supporters have welcomed the project saying they are happy that the Collingwood Football Club are “finally coming back home, where they belong” and are pleased for the redevelopment project to go ahead.

The new satellite TV channels make overseas born Collingwood public housing estate residents feel like at home.

“It’s a great project, we have been looking forward to having this satellite TV channels for sometime. Now we can watch TV programs (delivered) on our mother tongues” said Mary Ding, a resident from Chinese descent said to yarraReporter.
