Paul Mbenna is a well known singer in Tanzania; his song called Zuwena tells a story about love and tragedy and made him famous not only in his country but also in countries throughout east Africa such as Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Uganda and Mozambique.
Migrating from Tanzania 2 years ago to join his Australian wife, Mbenna found that living in Australia is exciting as he easily found employment and is able to perform.
Mbenna was one of the performers during the Emerge Festival that was organized as part of the Refugee Week celebration in mid June at the Fitzroy town hall, the theme for this year’s celebration was “Freedom from Fear”. Mbenna told yarraReporter on how music can be used to reach others from different cultures.
