yarraReporter participants completed their first assignment during the latest Atherton Gardens Residents Association election last week.
Participants were assigned to observe the election and focus on issues such as voter turn-out, security, fraud/manipulation, voters and logistics.
It was held at Atherton Gardens, Fitzroy, Vic on Oct 30. It was good learning experience for participants, as they come from different country of origins that have different electoral systems.
“It was good exercise. It is very different from Sudan, as the election is usually conducted un-transparently” said Thomas Abiel, one of the participants during the discussion after doing the assignment.
yarraReporter is Infoxchange Australia’s latest initiative, training public housing estate residents within the City of Yarra in Melbourne, Victoria, on journalism. The training will take place for 5 months; at the end of the project participants will become professional journalists who are able to produce news stories.
